There may be ventilation openings in the body of the lantern, closed with opaque blinds. Lanterns are used both to create general and local (only above the workplace) lighting. Laboratory lights are necessarily equipped with light filters that transmit only non-actinic light, which does not have a harmful effect on the photosensitive emulsion of the photographic material (harmful effect - flare or the formation of a photographic veil).
